Peter Burke is an artist and educator who lives and works on Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung and Bunurong Boon Wurrung Country in Naarm / Melbourne. By these means he examines topical issues and questions the general condition of contemporary society. His projects intersect with painting, drawing, performance, video and the mass media.
Peter’s work has been presented around Australia and in India, Portugal, Japan and Singapore, often within surprising public contexts. He holds an MFA from the Victorian College of the Arts, University of Melbourne, and a PhD from RMIT University. He currently lectures at the Victorian College of the Arts at the University of Melbourne.
Peter acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land: Yorta Yorta Country, where he was born in Shepparton, and Naarm, where he resides. He pays his respects to Elders past and present, and celebrates the stories, culture and traditions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders from all communities who live and work on this land.
